UNEP’s Children’s Painting Competition

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has launched the 24th edition of the annual children’s painting contest under the theme “We have the power” to highlight renewable energy and energy efficiency solutions globally.

Targeting young people between the ages of 9 and 14, the competition aims to raise awareness on energy consumption and energy savings.

Energy is at the heart of critical economic, environmental and development issues facing the world today. Clean, efficient, affordable and reliable energy services are indispensable for global prosperity and can lead to a sustainable future for all with multiple co-benefits for development, human health and the environment

Artwork should illustrate themes of energy efficiency and energy conservation and must be submitted by 31 May 2015.

Participants also stand a chance to win up to US $3,000 in prize money and other supplementary awards, including:

The 1st Prize: US $3,000

The 2nd Prize: US $2,000

The 3rd Prize: US $1,000

Top three winners will also receive and a fully paid trip, including for one chaperone, to the venue of the award ceremony.

Regional winners

One winner from each region – Africa, Asia and the Pacific, West Asia, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, and North America – will receive US $1,000.

Coordinated by UNEP and organizing partners each year, the flagship art and environment event has, since 1991, received more than 3 million entries from children in over 190 countries globally.
